What to Expect at Each Level
PUFFERFISH
In the Pufferfish Level your child will learn to do the following: Sit independently on the wall. Jump in. Wall Walk, Listen and follow directions. Climb out of the pool. Pour water over their head. Hold the air they breathe until they want to let it out (on land). Look underwater and hold breath with and without goggles. Jump in the water and get their head wet. Submerge and relax for at least 5 seconds. Safety Skill: Always ask permission before getting in the water. If your child can pass all these skills you should sign them up for the next level.
STARFISH
In the Starfish Level your child will learn to do the following: Put on a lifejacket and kick. Put on a lifejacket and float on their back and kick 20 feet. Lay on their front to float with their face in the water (assisted and unassisted). Lay on their back and float, rest and breathe (assisted and unassisted). Pulled in streamline on their front and their back. Go underwater, float or kick to the surface and take a breath. Roll from their front to their back. Roll from their back to their front. Jump in, submerge, return to the surface and roll on their back (kicking and finning) for 5 seconds. Safety Skill: Put on a lifejacket, float on their back and kick 20 feet. If your child can pass all these skills you should sign them up for the next level.
CRAB
In the Crab level your child will learn to do the following: Streamline and kick on their front (assisted and unassisted). Streamline and kick on their back (assisted and unassisted). Kick and pull on their front (assisted and unassisted). Kick and pull on their back (assisted and unassisted). Swim underwater for 10 feet with one breath. Retrieve an object from the bottom. Jump in, come up for air, kick and pull forward 10 feet on their front or back, change direction and return to the side (in swimwear and regular clothes) using swim-roll-swim to breathe. Safety Skill: Use flotation to help someone in the water (reach or throw, don’t go) and know how to call emergency services. If your child can pass all these skills you should sign them up for the next level.
OCTOPUS
In the Octopus level your child will learn to do the following: Tread water for 15 seconds. Side glide and kick (both sides) assisted and unassisted. Streamline and kick on their front, and then roll to their side to rest and breathe (both sides assisted). Roll from side glide to streamline to side glide. Roll from streamline on their front to streamline on their back (unassisted). Roll from streamline on their back to streamline on their front (unassisted). Side glide, one overarm pull, roll to back to rest and breathe. Side glide rotate on to their back, then roll to opposite side glide to rest and breathe. Jump in, recover to side glide position, kick 10 feet. Safety Skill: Tread water for 15 seconds. If your child can pass all these skills you should sign them up for the next level.
TURTLE
In the Turtle level your child will learn to do the following: Survival float. Survival float and tread water for 30 seconds. Start in side glide, 3 overarm pulls, roll to the opposite side glide. Start in side glide, link 3 sets of 3 overarm pulls, rolling to opposite side glide to rest and breathe. Start in side glide, link 3 sets of 3 back pulls, rolling to opposite side glide to rest and breathe. Dive safely into deep water. Perform a vertical head first dive from the surface in deep water. Start in side glide and swim freestyle 30 feet with 1-2-3 breathe pattern. Start to learn backstroke. Safety Skill: Survival float and tread water for 30 seconds. If your child can pass all these skills you should sign them up for the next level.
SEAHORSE
In the Seahorse Level your child will learn to do the following: Swim freestyle with high elbow recovery. Swim freestyle with thumb touch. Swim freestyle with centre line pull. Swim freestyle with body roll. Exhale in the water before rolling to breathe. Swim freestyle 30 feet with body stretched out and consistent breathing and form. Put on a lifejacket in the water. Perform the 30-60-90 backstroke drill. Swim backstroke with straight arm recovery. Swim backstroke with little finger first entry. Swim backstroke with bent arm pull. Swim backstroke with good body and arm extension. Perform backstroke with body roll. Perform backstroke kick. Perform 30 feet backstroke with straight arm recovery, body rolling, and good arm body extension. Diving. Safety Skill: Put on a lifejacket while in the water and swim 30 feet with it. If your child can pass all these skills you should sign them up for the next level.
SHARK
In the Shark level your child will learn to do the following: Use floatation to assist someone that needs help in the water. Know when and how to call emergency services. Swim 30 feet breaststroke with good timing and extension. Survival float or tread water for 2 minute. Perform a racing dive. Swim freestyle 50 yards with rolling body motion, high elbow recovery and body stretch. Swim backstroke 50 yards with rolling body motion, straight arm recovery and body stretch. Swim 25 yards butterfly with dolphin body motion, straight arm recovery and body stretch. Swim 50 yards breaststroke with proper timing and body stretch. Perform freestyle and backstroke flip turns and butterfly and breaststroke open turns. Swim a 200 individual medley. Safety Skill: Survival float or tread water for 2 minutes.
Types of Lessons We Offer
Dive in to our swimming lessons! Our sessions are a total of 7 or 8 classes, packed with everything you need to make a splash in the water.
group lessons
We offer year round swimming lessons for your child. Parent/Tot classes are for toddlers with an adult in the water. Regular lessons usually start at age 2. Parent Tot Lessons
Parent/Tot Lessons are perfect for babies and toddlers just being introduced to swimming lessons. Songs and games make it fun for the parent and child to help teach water exploration and safety skills. Held in the warm pool. We require swim diapers for any infant or toddler who is not potty trained - either reusable or disposable. We have swim diapers on sale at the pool for $1.00 each
Adult and private Lessons
Swimming instruction in the form of private lessons may be arranged on a case by case basis. Rates may be decided by your instructor at time of signup. Contact our main office for more information.
